What information do you need when you want to purchase a solar-powered borehole pump?

  • How deep is the water level underground? This can easily be measured by lowering a rope with a heavy object tied to the end into the borehole until the rope loses tension. Tie a knot at ground level and pull the rope out of the borehole. Measure the distance from the knot to where the rope started getting wet.
  • Will the water be pumped to a level higher than ground level (into a reservoir) What is this height?
  • How much water do I need? a Standard JoJo tank holds 5,500 liters. Water flow is usually measured in liters per hour. On an average day, a solar pump without battery backup will run for 5.5 hours. If a pump delivers 1,000 liters per hour, it will fill a 5,500 liter tank in one day.

Refer to the drawing below and the table to find the pump model best suited for your needs.
For example, for a scenario where 60 meters head is required, the SP95 pump will deliver a flow of 950 liters per hour and the SP145 pump will deliver a flow of 4,100 liters per hour.
